Mets return to their regularly scheduled programming with three games in Denver

Mets Seek Redemption in Mile High City

The New York Mets, fresh off a makeup game victory in St. Louis, are set to resume their road trip with a crucial three-game series against the struggling Colorado Rockies. With the Mets fighting for a Wild Card spot and the Rockies languishing at the bottom of the National League standings, this series presents an opportunity for the Mets to gain ground and solidify their postseason aspirations.

Mets Poised to Capitalize on Rockies' Woes

Mets' Offense Firing on All Cylinders

The Mets' lineup has been a force to be reckoned with over the past couple of months, with several players stepping up and delivering impressive performances. Jeff McNeil, Pete Alonso, and Harrison Bader have led the charge, each posting impressive offensive numbers. Additionally, Tyrone Taylor, Mark Vientos, Luis Torrens, J.D. Martinez, and Francisco Lindor have all been above league average at the plate. While a few regulars, such as Brandon Nimmo, Jose Iglesias, and Francisco Alvarez, have struggled, the overall offensive production has been a significant improvement from earlier in the season.

Mets' Pitching Staff Finding Their Groove

The Mets' pitching staff has also been performing well, with the team ranking 10th in baseball over the last 30 days with a 3.71 ERA. The starting rotation has been particularly impressive, ranking 7th with a 3.43 ERA. The bullpen, which had struggled earlier in the season, has also shown signs of improvement, with a 4.17 ERA over the same period, ranking 19th in the league.

Rockies Struggling Mightily

In contrast, the Rockies have been mired in a dismal season, currently holding the worst record in the National League. Collectively, the Rockies have an 81 wRC+, the second-worst mark in all of baseball, ahead of only the White Sox. While Jacob Stallings has been a bright spot, with a 122 wRC+, the rest of the Rockies' lineup has struggled to produce, with only Brenton Doyle and Ryan McMahon posting above-average offensive numbers.

Pitching Woes Plague the Rockies

The Rockies' pitching staff has been the primary culprit for their struggles, ranking last in the league with a 5.52 ERA. Even accounting for the effects of playing at altitude, their 117 ERA- is the second-worst in the league, once again behind only the White Sox. Neither the rotation nor the bullpen has been able to find consistent success, with both segments of the Colorado pitching staff ranking dead last in baseball in ERA.

Mets Seek Redemption and Opportunity

When these teams met earlier this month in Queens, the Mets won the first two games before dropping the series finale. This series presents an opportunity for the Mets to not only redeem themselves but also improve their position in the Wild Card race. In 2015, the Mets swept a three-game series in Denver, scoring 33 runs in the process, en route to a division-winning season. While the Mets currently sit 1.5 games back of a Wild Card spot and 7.0 games back of the first-place Phillies, the chance to leave Denver in a better position is still very much within reach.
